Behind the vertical garden on Paseo del Prado, CaixaForum runs ambitious, well-curated exhibitions on everything from photography to ancient history, often free or for a small fee. Locals treat it as a reliable plan for any afternoon.

Fundación Mapfre and CentroCentro
Two more foundations, one on Recoletos and one inside the old Palacio de Cibeles, put on serious photography and art shows, frequently free. CentroCentro also has a viewpoint over the rooftops.
